One of the artists who made it his studio in the early 1960s was Gianni Ottaviani; in 2021, Grottammare Town Council decided to symbolically return the theatre’s spaces to him by staging a permanent exhibition of his work in the Ridotto, based on the substantial collection of works that the artist donated to the town in 2018.

Born in Grottammare in 1939, Ottaviani took his first steps in painting, as a self-taught artist, in the late 1950s. Over the following decade, his paintings were predominantly figurative and introspective, except for a brief period during which he focused on social and political themes. In 1971, Ottaviani moved to Milan, where he graduated from the Brera Academy and where he still lives today. It is here that his most significant works take shape, such as the ‘histoires’, the ‘archeopaties’ and his research into material culture.

The exhibition highlights some key aspects of Ottaviani’s work: the monochromatic phase of his early painting career in Grottammare; the subsequent ‘histoires’, which link the sacred sphere to geometry; and, above all, his more mature phase, evidenced by various works that illustrate different manifestations of his artistic vision, centred on transcending the fragmented ‘modern’ self – a concept rooted in the early twentieth century – in favour of a more solid self, constantly seeking codes and structures capable of bringing rational order to the flow of reality that engulfs it.

The Gianni Ottaviani exhibition space is open on request on the same days and at the same times as the Il Tarpato Museum below

[111
post-6504","luoghi","type-luoghi","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tipologia-luoghi-museums
["GET
