The “Vegetable Festival”: that’s certainly how one might describe the TRATTORIA DEGLI ORTI in Grottammare, which has been the “kingdom” of the Alessiani family (Gabriele, Gabriella and Emanuele with his wife Federica) since 1993, where you can breathe in the countryside air whilst gazing out at the sea. Here, in fact, you can savour the traditional cuisine of a rural world that many have forgotten and many have never known, but which keeps the simplest traditions of the land alive.
The various vegetables, grown locally (and therefore strictly farm-to-table), are selected and inspected before making their way to the kitchen, where Gabriella—living up to expectations—will prepare them in a variety of dishes that pay homage to tradition and the rediscovery of rural culinary roots. Healthy, fresh, and authentic cuisine is, therefore, the Trattoria’s strong point, appreciated not only by the many figures from the worlds of culture, sports, and entertainment who are regulars there, but also by prestigious travel and food magazines, which have published flattering articles about it over the years. And it was only in a place like this that, more than twenty years ago, this variation on the traditional Ascolana olives—stuffed with vegetables—could have been created. You absolutely have to try them!
Trattoria degli Orti is also known for its exquisite pizzas, made with a long-rise dough and baked exclusively in a wood-fired oven by Emanuele: available only in the evening, the classic, traditional varieties are complemented, of course, by those topped with various seasonal vegetables—lighter but particularly flavorful.
